The Diamond: A Structure for Simulation Debrief
The Diamond is a structured format for debriefing simulation-based learning experiences. The Diamond helps novice faculty to develop their debriefing skills while providing a support for experienced faculty to keep their debriefs focused and learner-centred. It emerged from, and has been validated in, thousands of hours of debriefing simulation-based learning, and is based on a foundation of education, psychology, and clinical simulation scholarship. The Diamond structure helps to keep debriefs focused on the human factors (sometimes called non-technical) skills that are an important part of simulation-based learning, while keeping space for important clinical learning that can emerge in the simulation setting. As an annotated debriefing aid, the Diamond is available for download and use in healthcare and educational settings.
